Did this ever become law? Have the gas pedal disengaged with the brake pedal simultaneously applied? I know the NHTSA wanted to make it law but I can’t find any info on whether or not that happened. I know most automakers are doing it anyway, but just wondering if its a mandate or not.

I don’t know if it’s mandated, but here’s some trivia...
The Malibu SS (whatever generation was in 2006) had a pretty smart override. Press gas once with brake on, nothing. Release, press again, and it allowed the use of both at the same time.

There needs to be an override for sure, there are times when left foot braking is a big deal, on and off road.

I have the same feelings on traction and stability control. Give me them, by all means. But let me disable them completely when I want to.

Yup, supremely handy, supremely disappointing (even dangerous)

Considering you can still do burnouts in new cars, I’d say no.

Undefeatable stability control is the worst. A car is completely useless like that.

One of my “Against” reasons for trading up anytime soon.

How would this even work? How would one do a hill start with an automatic transmission in a less powerful car without at least a little bit of throttle while braking?
